If you're like me, you probably save all of your downloads on your desktop. This can create an unruly mess of icons and random executable files.

Clear up your desktop and organize your downloads into one folder. This is how it's done:

  1. Open your Desktop. Do this by minimizing all open Windows or press the Windows button + D on your keyboard.
  2. Right-click your mouse on your Desktop.
  3. Select New, then select folder.
  4. Name the folder My Downloads (or whatever name you fancy) and press Enter.
  5. The next time you download a program, save it in your Downloads folder. Get in the habit of saving all downloads in this new folder.
  6. Now, you'll never misplace another download again.

You don't have to place your new download folder on the Desktop if you don't want to. The Desktop is a convenient place to access files and folders, though. You may want to consider giving every download a name that you'll remember.
