Make sure all the links in your Internet Explorer Favorites folder still work, and quickly get rid of the ones that don't.

The Internet completely fascinates me. I don't know what makes me more excited, the massive amount of content or watching how it's unifying people around the world. I mean, we're really on the cusp of some serious human evolution stuff here. OK, maybe not cusp-type stuff, but it's still really important.

Long story short, I'm on the Net all the time, using it for absolutely everything. I check movie times, stock quotes, and news, find lost friends, research trivia questions, and just surf around to enjoy myself. When I run into an interesting site, I add it to my Internet Explorer Favorites so I won't need to search the massive expanse of cyberspace to get back to it.

Years come and go, and I end up with a Favorites list packed with tons of links. In the meantime some of the sites go under, some change their URL, and some just fall into disrepair. Checking each bookmark by hand would take years and cost me more of my sanity than I'm willing to part with, so I use IE Favorite Checker 0.5b.

This simple program scans your Favorites. Within seconds you know which links work and which you can trash.
  1. Open the software.
  2. Import your Favorites.
  3. Click Check.

The app also lets you delete, rename, and export your Favorites.

IE Favorite Checker 0.5b won't change your life, but it will make it a bit easier -- at least until we reach a level where man's consciousness and the Internet merge into one glorious whole. Then again, maybe that's something else altogether.
