Synchronize, copy, and back up files with ease.

When you need to synchronize files between multiple machines or folders, you can do it two ways. You can use the complicated-to-set-up but relatively simple-to-use Microsoft Briefcase. Or you can try today's free file, SyncBack, which is easy to set up and easy to use.

File synchronization is the ability to share and copy common files between one or more folders or computers. Typically only common files that have been changed between two or more folders are copied. This saves time, since you're not copying everything over again, and ensures that you have the latest version of your file(s) on both locations.

Once installed and launched, SyncBack requires you to create a profile. Start off by giving your profile a name. Next, select source and destination directories. The source directory is the directory that holds the files you wish to synchronize. The destination is the folder to which you want to have synchronized files copied. The source or destination folders can be on your local hard drive or a networked drive.

Next, you'll notice five tabbed windows on the bottom.
  1. The Simple tab lets you determine how you wish to synchronize the folders based on your needs.
  2. The Advanced tab does the same job, offering you greater control (and greater complexity as well).
  3. The Option tab lets you run SyncBack on a scheduled timer.
  4. The Sub Directory tab lets you select which sub directory/folders will or will not be synched.
  5. The Copy/Delete tab allows you more flexible deleting and file-copying through the Windows Shell -- think right-click.
