Now, the teens' parents are suing Take 2 Interactive, Sony, and Wal-Mart for the game's negative psychological impacts. Now, Take Two wants the $246 million suit dismissed. Security Alert

Tuesday: Microsoft Patch Day
Microsoft issued three new security alerts. One patch fixes holes in Internet Explorer that hit nearly every version of Windows. The holes could allow an attacker to take over your system. This is part of Microsoft's new second Tuesday of every month patching strategy. So, patch now, or forever hold your peace.

  • Altnet is accusing several firms of misusing its patented file-tracking system both to monitor downloading activity on P2P services such as KaZaA, and to gather evidence for the record industry's legal campaign against file-swappers. Altnet says it has issued notices to nine companies to stop the alleged patent infringement. Alleged infringers include BigChampagne, a firm that monitors P2P traffic, and Media Defender, a company that has tracked alleged illegal file swapping for the entertainment industry.
  • Apple describes its G5 as the world's fastest personal computer. But is it really? British regulators have banned a television ad for the G5, saying it's misleading and that there's not enough proof for Apple's speed claim. Apple insists the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation benchmark does show the G5 is indeed the fastest.
  • The new neutron detector device from the National Space Biomedical Research Institute could help crews on the International Space Station avoid potentially lethal radiation.
  • MoveOn.org has now raised nearly $4 million in pledges for an anti-Bush TV spot already airing in some markets. More than 70,000 people have pitched in to pay for the ads, highlighting what MoveOn says are President Bush's policy failures. The left-leaning advocacy group has also received a pledge from billionaire George Soros, who says he and Progressive Insurance Chairman Peter Lewis will donate up to $5 million to help remove Bush from office in 2004.

  • Emory University researchers found that the drug Seromycin seems to erase fear of heights faster than just therapy alone. But skeptics say drug therapy is no substitute for learning techniques to overcome fears.
  • Two million epileptics never know when a seizure may strike next. Drugs help control brain defects, but UCLA doctors feel there's no substitute for brain surgery. They're trying to learn the best times to operate, and where surgery works the best.
  • Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York scanned brains of couples who can't keep their hands off each other. They found just the sight of a sweetheart triggers chemistry linked to pleasure, happiness, and sex.

  • The Border Patrol has the VSS (vehicle stop system) to stop cars from illegally bolting across. The net can stop cars going 50 miles an hour without injuring the people inside.
  • A heliodisplay prototype projects images directly into the air.
  • The Video Now is a pocket-sized video disc player and a cool new way for kids to watch their favorite TV shows.
