America's greatest actor may also be America's biggest Luddite.

To say Kevin Kline doesn't like technology would be a wild understatement. Not only doesn't he own a computer, but Kline reviles them. As our Scott Herriott found out, the charming star of The Emperor's Club loathes gadgets, PCs, and the Internet with a level of dramatic disdain only an accomplished Shakespearean actor can muster. "I'm a Luddite of the first order," Kline tells Scott. And he ain't lying.

'It's bad! It's bad!'
"If I want to learn something," Kline says, "I go to a book," not the Internet. But what about all that knowledge right there at his fingertips? "It's information," Kline tells Scott. "Knowledge is another thing."
Isn't there one piece of technology that flips Kline's proverbial switch? "My belt," he quips. "The whole buckle thing I found perplexing for years, but I've got it now." Oh, how droll.
We have our own theory on why Kline despises technology so deeply. Could it have anything to do with a little film called Wild Wild West in which Kline was forced to ride atop a ridiculous mechanical spider and trade lines with Will Smith in a 10-gallon hat? A special effects-fueled bomb like that would turn anybody into a tech sourpuss.

"Wild Wild West" aside, Kline is undoubtedly one of our most talented and versatile living actors, showing equal skill for dramas such as Sophie's Choice and The Big Chill as for classic comedies such as A Fish Called Wanda and Soapdish. Buy some of his DVDs below from Amazon.com.
