Set up your PC to run not one, but two operating systems.

Life using Linux is good. It's so good that sometimes we need to load Windows and realize how wonderful and stable Linux is. Seriously, sometimes we have things that can only be done under Windows -- games, for instance. I'm often asked how to load both Linux and Windows on the same machine. On today's show, I'll show you how it's done.

I'm not talking about running Windows apps under Linux, or running Windows and Linux at the same time. I'm talking about using the machine to host two operating systems. When you boot the machine, you can choose which operating system you want, in this case, Windows and Linux.

It's really quite simple.
  • Load Windows XP onto the machine, leaving a partition for Linux.
  • Load Linux onto the partition that you created.
  • Make the Linux root partition the active one.

Seem simple? That's because at its heart it is. Let's explore the three steps in-depth.
