The Internet makes superstars out of the weirdest things. Here are the top three Internet fads in history.

  1. Hamster Dance
Remember the hamster dance? If you were online two years ago, there's a 98 percent chance you saw the oh-so-lame collection of animated hamster GIFs dancing and swaying to outrageously annoying MIDI music. More than 70 million people logged on to that site, yet it's nearly impossible to find today. I only know of one place that still hosts the original. If you go to www.hamsterdance.com today, you'll find a really slick, interactive version of the hamster dance that has none of the charm of the original. The hamster dance sold out, man.

  2. I Kiss You
Mahir was huge. He's the Turkish guy who had the website www.ikissyou.org (actually his friend made it as a joke) saying he wanted to kiss you and in so doing promote love and happiness and peace in the world. During the height of the dot-com frenzy, Mahir appeared as the featured guest at gala parties in San Francisco at which he got to kiss lots of women. Mahir proves that anyone can become internationally famous by creating a simple website.

  3. All Your Base Are Belong to Us
Of all the insane Internet fads, All Your Base Are Belong to Us is by far the most inspired. I guarantee that anyone reading this article has already seen the Flash video, so there is no point in my describing it to you.
